This entry is part 21 of 16 in the series EHI Quick Tips

As the weather begins to heat up and you have the occasional humid day, don’t automatically go for the air conditioner. You have other options!

Yeah, you’ll read tips similar to this on just about any environmentally-focused website. But like any of our messages, repetition can be necessary for those who are recently converted to improving their EHI,
those who are unconvinced, and even those of us who are committed, but may need reminders and encouragement.

So instead of turning on your air conditioning, try opening a window. It can be refreshing on a day with 65° F temperatures, during which the outside is pleasant but the sun makes the inside a bit uncomfortable. Heating up into the seventies and eighties? Try a fan or two coupled with open windows. Use a ceiling fan or try getting a cross-breeze by putting a fan or two in your windows. One on one side of your home blowing in cool air and one on the other side blowing outward.

Consistent air movement can make a person feel a few degrees cooler, helping you to avoid the air conditioner, which uses large amounts of electricity, for a while longer — saving the environment, and yes, money.

Another continuing theme to watch: improving your envirohuman impact can save you money!
