Ethanol pushes prices higher on thousands of other everyday goods used by consumers | Earthascope

Honestly, I don’t normally like to do this, but for now, I’m going to step up onto my soapbox and proclaim:

“Ethanol is not the solution to our energy crisis in the US or around the world! More than cruel joke than responsible solution, ethanol does neither of the two main benefits that its proponents suggest: it does not and will not reduce our dependence on foreign oil and is not even that much more environmentally friendly!”

Now, until just a few months ago, like many others, I believed that ethanol was part of the solution to our rising cost of gasoline and movingtowards a more sustainable form of energy. Unfortunately, I could not have been more wrong. Upon reading an article on the topic written by Investor’s Business Daily titled Ethanol Lobby is Perpetrating a Cruel Hoax, both my environmental and my economics/business conscience became enraged! I’d rather not rehash the editorial piece so take a look for yourself, you might just come away as I did – half blown away!

The world is in a very tough position right now as many countries around the world are moving out of the “Third World” status that has plagued them for decades, if not centuries and at the heart of their emergence is the existence of “cheap” fossil fuels. But as their demand for these increases and prices rise, we have the opportunity to not just shift money and problems from one area to another (read: high gas prices converted to high food/commidity prices due to ethanol – while gas prices stay high anyway) but to actually develop alternatives that will ultimately correct or diminish the problem to a sustainable level, along with great gains in efficiency. At that point we can lead the developing countries in the wave of sustainability as well!

Stay tuned for more articles on sustainable energy and companies leading the charge toward greener energy!
