Have you ever stopped to think about the amount of paper wasted from fax machines? If you use one at work you probably see it spewing new documents all day long. Own a small business? How about all the junk faxes you get from salesmen with their latest and greatest solicitation? How nice of them to send a twenty page information packet, wasting your precious recycled paper that will inevitably just end up right back in the trash can (or, hopefully, your recycling bin!).
Wait, aren’t we in the digital age now? Fax machines are so last century, but no doubt there are still some times where one is necessary. Did you know there are easier ways to manage both the onslaught of incoming faxes and save time, money, and paper?
For nearly a year now, I’ve been using the fax services of MyFax.com to eliminate the need for an actual fax machine in my home. I needed one for work purposes and thought, “There has to be a better way, this isn’t 1990!”
So here’s how it works: I set up an account online with MyFax. They let you pick a number (in my area code or a 1-800 number). When someone sends you a fax, they convert it to a PDF and send it to you as an attachment in an email. So it’s actually pretty simple! Oh yeah, and I pay them about $10 a month. Not a bad price, considering the wasted ink and paper savings — have you seen the cost of ink?
The way I see it, I’m saving the headache of dealing with unwanted faxes by just deleting the email containing them. I don’t have to buy an actual fax machine. And finally, I reduce my envirohuman impact because I’m not using any paper at all! So give it a shot, step into the digital age, and green your home, business, and life with MyFax.com.

Hi Matthew,
Great post! Getting rid of your traditional fax machine is a big step toward a green office and not just because of the paper, ENERGY STAR, a program of the US Environmental Agency states a fax machine consumes more electricity than any other office equipment. We have lots of other tips and some easy ways to “green” your office here: http://www.myfax.com/green
