To Fax or Not to Fax, That is the Question

We have written on a number of occasions ways in which you can reduce your paper use. Here, we’re showcasing some easy advice for how to cut out some paper in your life. Why should you do that? For several reasons:

  1. Paper production from virgin fibers leads to tree cutting, which reduces habitat and our ability to sequester carbon and other chemicals from our air, as well as chainsaws, trucks, and lifting equipment to move those items.
  2. Paper production also is very chemical and water intensive. Often, chlorine and water are used to make paper and to make it white! Both can be harmful to the environment and both are energy and chemical intensive. Yes, recycling paper can mean the same things, but some companies don’t use as much water and some don’t use chlorine to whiten paper when recycling.
  3. Oftentimes, paper doesn’t make it to the recycling center but rather gets tossed into landfills.
  4. Most every sheet of paper printed gets shipped in some manner of energy-intensive vehicle, burning fossil fuels along the way.

Anything you can do to not only recycle/reuse your paper but also to make sure that you take as many steps to reduce your use is most important.
