Who Can Get the Mainstream to Cover EPA Gade Story? | Earthascope

Many have asked, “Why has this story barely been covered by mainstream media outlets?” and, “How can we get them to cover the Gade story?”

The answer can be as simple or nuanced as you want it to be.

The simple answer is that you have the potential to put this on the map. Right now I’m not talking about blogging about this, sharing it with friends on your social networks, or calling your media outlets or representatives in Congress. Those all help to keep the story from going to the wayside, but when it comes down to it, you could put this on the political landscape today (or tomorrow, or the next day).

How? Well, I said you have the potential. Most of us do. It’s up to one brave soul who is lucky enough to be given the chance to ask a question at a Presidential campaign event. It could be you. Could be me (though I don’t have any scheduled stops at a campaign rally). Could be your neighbor.  Whoever it is, just make sure they have read about it and are informed of what is already known.

Far-fetched?  Maybe a little bit. But it’s not impossible.  The point is that if you or someone you know is at a campaign event, encourage them ask the candidate (and of them):

It appears that Mary Gade was forced to resign from her post at the EPA’s Region 5 Office in Chicago because she enforced the law too strongly against Dow Chemical, who seems to have political allies acting on its behalf. What do you propose we do to get to the bottom of this matter and how would you treat this situation if you were President?

With one question, the reaction of the candidate could get this story talked about in the mainstream, where most Americans still receive their news.  A firestorm of coverage might ensue, and pressure could then be put onto Congress to hasten the pace on looking into why Mary Gade was forced out of her job.

The nuanced answer is that we have to keep covering it on blogs, wading through the tiny amounts of information available on the matter (compared to the connections and tools media outlets have at their disposal).  Hopefully, eventually this story gets its day in the media, and in Congress as its oversight function goes into action.
